4G and 5G is now available at select Elizabeth Line stations
Tfl have announced that mobile coverage has arrived on the Elizabeth line.
The initial rollover will only cover ticket halls, escalators and platforms at 4 of the busiest stations: Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon and Liverpool Street.
By the end of this year, Tfl says the entire 73 miles of the Elizabeth line, including tunnels, will be covered by 4G and 5G access.
Boldyn Networks, who signed a 20 year deal with Tfl in June 2021, is building and maintaining the mobile infrastructure on the London Underground and Elizabeth Line. The initial plan stipulated 4G signal, however this has since been upgraded to also include 5G.
All 4 of the major UK networks (EE, Three, O2 and Vodafone) have signed deals with Boldyn Networks to bring mobile coverage to their customers.
Progress is also moving along the London Underground, but at a slower pace. Some stations and tunnels (mainly along the busiest parts) previously rolled out mobile coverage. Station and tunnel coverage will continue to expand throughout the year, however given the size, complexity and old infrastructure of the Tube network, entire access throughout will take a while longer compared to the Elizabeth line.
